| Lawtey Chief of Police, Chief M.M. 'Butch' Jordan, has held the title of Chief of Police in Lawtey for over 44 years. He is listed in the Guinness Book of World Records as well, with the title of "Longest-Serving Chief of Police". In 1961, Chief Jordan began his law enforcement career in Starke, about 7 miles south of Lawtey. 14 months later, he got the job as the sole officer in Lawtey. He managed as the sole officer of Lawtey for over 10 years, and several re-elections. However, as the years went on, Lawtey began to grow, and the police department grew as well, with a current staff of 11 officers. |
